AJ Cook as Agent Jennifer Jareau

aj_cook.jpgAJ Cook recently spoke about why Criminal Minds is so appealing to viewers. “We come out of the gate the same, pretty much, from birth. It’s interesting to see what kinds of things happen to a person to make them that way.” CM, she says has a psychological depth that draws viewers in. And even though many of the victims of the show are women, women are still supportive of the show because the question why are people like this is looked at.
Psychological depth and Shemar Moore. AJ says of her costar:

Shemar Moore is a dreamboat! I think one of the first things I said to him was ‘alright dude, I’m just going to get this out of the way, I grew up watching you on the soaps.’ He was so gracious with it all, and he was really, really cool about it.

JJ has to be confident in her decisions - she decided which cases are investigated by the BAU. On her first day of shooting, though, AJ was a little more nervous than her on-screen persona.
In an interview with Canada’s CTV.ca, AJ says:

In my very first scene I had to bust into the room and take charge and dominate. I just had to rush through the room, speaking a hundred miles an hour, ordering everyone around. I was so nervous, and I don’t even know how I got through that day.

But she made it through that day and many more as her character grew. One of the things that AJ likes is the evolution of her character.

When I came on, she was just black and white on a page. There was no description, and nothing really to her. It’s been a fun process working with the writers and finding who she is.

Speaking of writers, AJ Cook is very supportive of the people who help bring her show to life, both the writers and the crew.

We are entering into the great unknown here and I really feel for our crew. Many of them live paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to have a five- or six-month strike. I support the writers and I understand; I just want it to be over quickly.

  1. Marilyn Says:

AJ definately is a character whose role is growing. We are learning a little bit more about her but very gradually–it is interesting to see how her character develops–she plays a major role in the show–pretty much choosing the cases for the team I hope there are more shows that focus on her.
