This reminded me of an episode of Medium, with Patricia Arquette (if you’ve never seen this show, do. I got it on Netflix and loved it). Anyway, in one episode, the main character, Allison, witnesses an execution. Then, someone is murdered and the executionee (?) is caught on tape comitting the crime.

Anyway, in “Angel Maker,” it turns out that a woman is committing the crimes - to feel closer to her dead serial killer boyfriend. Interesting. In typical Criminal Minds fashion, the team has to figure this out, find her next victim, and save her. Mission accomplished.

I thought the case was interesting, and I liked the twists with people half-thinking this guy came back from the dead. To me, though, what was really interesting was Hotch. He’s not cleared to fly, and is told to stay away from loud noises or his hearing damage may become permanent. Of course, he flies and exposes himself to loud noises. The excavator digging up the grave causes him to clutch his ear in pain. And of course, he’s standing right next to the police officer who ends up shooting the unsub.

I liked how while Hotch was a main focus, it wasn’t overly obvious. We could see how the aftermath of the explosion was affecting him and he was trying to bury himself in work. It’s not completely working though. I’m really excited about the direction of season four - I love Hotch and want to see much more of him. According to spoilers we’ve read of the upcoming season, we’ll also see more of Emily, Reid, and Morgan. JJ’s having a baby, and we’ll also see more of Garcia’s relationship with Kevin Lynch (Nicholas Brandon). But, as “Angel Maker” shows, the cases are still a primary focus. I like how hthe writers blended the case with the personal. And there was a little more humor in this episode - like when Emily touches Reid’s face and says, “He’s so lifelike.” It’s good to see them act like regular people.

So, what did you think of “Angel Maker”? Are you enjoying season four so far?

“In the aftermath of Kate’s death, Hotch will ignore medical advice and continue to work with his post-explosion injuries, putting himself in danger of permanent injury,” executive producer Ed Bernero told TVGuide.com. “The team will then slowly realize that Hotch is working almost non-stop, and begin to worry further about his health.”

Also, we get some spoilers. JJ is out and her temporary fill-in finds that her job is definately not easy. Meta Golding will play Jordan Todd, who steps in while JJ (and AJ) is on maternity leave. Also, FINALLY more on Emily Prentiss:

“We have a real surprise in the middle of the season about her life. I think it will make total sense when it comes out, but I don’t think that you will see it coming. We’re excited about it, and Paget is very excited about it. It’s something that we’ve talked about behind the scenes, as ‘this is the secret,’ but we’re going to reveal it this year and give an interesting backstory to that character.”

I’m glad we will get to know a bit more about her - she’s been kind of a mystery so far.

This sounds like a great season. We’ll find out more about the lives of the characters, but hopefully there will still be a focus on interesting and compelling cases and criminals.

Hotch and Kate post-explosion and no help coming

So let’s talk premiere. Most readers agree that it was a great way to start season 4. Was it THE BEST episode? It was definately exciting, but I don’t think it was my favorite. I liked how it featured Hotch, who is my favorite character, and Morgan. Garcia also shined as usual. One review of the show that I read said that the show was kind of cliche as far as dealing with the terrorism and that it didn’t really go beyond the surface to explore the subject.

The point of all this mayhem was to assassinate some government official (the pres, I’m guessing, because who else would be worth all this trouble?). Something that felt odd to me was that the city went right back to normal the next day. It was as if nothing had happened, and I guess, it really didn’t. Crisis averted and business as usual.

I liked how the show felt like a movie - it was dramatic and exciting. It went less into the minds of the criminals than usual, but I liked the focus on Hotch. I think it was a good way to kick off the season, and I amlooking forward to seeing more. I felt like season 3 was a weaker one (the strike didn’t help) so I’m optimistic that this one will be much stronger and hopefully even better than the first two.

Anyway, my little CM fan and I will definately be watching this next week.

BEWARE OF TEEN STARS

He turned down “90210,” but Luke Perry will guest star on the Oct. 8 episode of CBS’ “Criminal Minds,” and he’s coming after Matthew Gray Gubler. “I grew up watching (’Beverly Hills, 90210′), so it was kind of strange to be held hostage by Dylan McKay,” says Gubler, the Las Vegas native who stars as Dr. Spencer Reid. “All these teen idols are holding me hostage,” he adds, when I remind him Dr. Reid also was taken captive by a character played by “Dawson’s Creek’s” James Van Der Beek. “Next it’s going to be Screech from ‘Saved by the Bell’ holding me hostage. Scott Baio, I saw him lurking outside my apartment.”

Luke Perry is a busy guy - he’s also going to guest star in Law & Order: SVU. I’ve recently watched 75 million episodes of that on Netflix, so it’s one of my new favorites. If you’re a Luke fan, tune in there too.

Kirsten at Outfest

Kirsten used to write a blog on the CBS site, and she quietly came out last year:
“My girlfriend and I (Happy Late National Coming Out Day) bought bikes” for the event. ”

The couple had decided at one point that the 2007 Outfest would be the perfect place to make things official, as it were. “It was totally appropriate. So we get all dressed up, we walk the red carpet. And the next morning we go (online), and then we look up the event, and there’s nothing. We can’t find a picture if our lives depended on it.”

At that point, Vangsness just wanted to get it over with.

“Because I work with this gorgeous man for whom, obviously, I would be dead if I didn’t say that he makes one’s heart a-flutter. And that flirting with Shemar is not fake at all. (But though) I enjoy men very much, it’s just that the girls were just that much better, and you have to go where things are that much better. So I was, like, ‘I need to get this out.’”

“So, because I was writing a blog, and it was the day after National Coming Out Day, I was, like, ‘Well, there you go, and people can just leave it to their imagination and take whatever they want from that. But now I’ve said it, I’m not going to say it again.’ ”

This is a great article, and it gives us a little more insight into the woman behind Penelope Garcia. She definately seems like someone you could go and have a beer with or watch a movie with; she’s also a great actress and perfect addition to the BAU team. Few actors look as good filmed in black and white as Thomas Gibson. He’s all angular cheekbones and aquiline nose, pale skin and dark, dark hair. There’s something decidedly old-Hollywood, even Cary Grant-ish about him.

Three years ago, some Criminal Minds crew members who were avid cyclists clued Moore into Bike MS. Besides raising money and awareness, Moore’s participation put him in touch with a community of people offering answers and solid information.

Having since secured proper treatment — and one hip replacement surgery later — Moore’s mother is more ambulatory than he once dared to hope. “I was an only child raised by a single mom and I thought she was indestructible, and now she’s kind of found her ‘kryptonite’” in MS, he says. “But she’s not going to break. That’s not an option if i have anything to say about it.”

Instead, he smiles, “She’s dancing in my kitchen and walking stairs. She has certain symptoms, yes, so there are days when she stays in bed. But other days she wants to go to a ball game or go swimming.”

The MS bike race is scheduled for this coming week.

In tv news, Bones and America’s Got Talent won the night Wednesday, although Criminal Minds did very well with 8.6 million viewers. I’m curious about how many will tune in next week!
