Good Question

by

question
Danielle sent me an email with a great question: at the end of “Bloodline,” Kathy told her son not to tell the BAU and the police about his brothers. Then we see a little boy in the back of the car with a man and a woman in the front - the next generation of gypsy serial killer. But who are the adults? If there the son’s brothers - aren’t his parents in jail? His mom was caught in the mall and his father was in the alley. So who were these other people? I wondered that too, but as I have a baby who cries at random points during the show, I didn’t know if I missed something. Can anyone help us out?

And thanks, Danielle, for asking.

I think the older one is Kathy’s son (not the 10 year’s old).
The kid must be her nephew.
If Kathy has been kidnapped when she was a child and had many sons during the years, some of them must be adults now.

The Gypsies refer to all who are in their particular “tribe” as brothers and sisters and there is also a father figure who organizes the whole group.

Now most of the “gypsies” live in palatial homes in North Carolina in the winter, they travel in trucks and RVs and come into suburban neighborhoods offering to do lawn work, or roofing or tiling or whatever they can see as they drive by. Usually the work is of poor quality and they insist on cash. This work and collection of money goes on in the spring, summer and early fall. It is an insular lifestyle and people on the outside are not allowed into the group as they arrange marriages for the children young and within the Brotherhood of tribes in America and Canada.

Thus, the final shot with Creepy Kid in a car is not an actual brother born to the same mother or father as the family in the show; rather they are another family within the brotherhood that must be kept secret.

I live in Virginia and there are laws against Gypsies plying their trade here, however, they get around it by claiming to be licensed and even offer recommendations by other house owners, if you actually tell them to wait while you check up on them, they are gone before you get off the phone.

Hire them at your own risk.

That is fascinating. I guess I didn’t realize that it was actually a real, whole community, or even different communities based on the origin of each group, that was present in any large number in the US. It is odd to think of - maybe because I associate gypsies so much with old Europe. But it really is interesting - thank you. It makes a lot of sense - and makes the ending so much more creepy.

    This is interesting http://www.smithsonianeducation.org/migrations/gyp/gypstart.html

There also was a special on 60 Minutes a few years ago which went in depth about the culture in the USA and that their main income came from the Traveling around the country doing “work” as in scams as they went around.

There was also a great LOCI that went very much into the culture when a social worker and aunt of a child about to be betrothed tries to rescue the child and is murdered.

Season 2, Ep 21: Graansha Goren and Eames enter the closed world of a thieving Irish Traveller clan when they investigate the death of a Ann Lawson, a probation officer who was run over three times after meeting a friend at the bar. They soon learn that Ann, a probation officer, had been involved with Malcolm Bryce, the father of Paul, one of her charges. It appears as though Ann is also very close with the thieving Irish Travellers they are investigating, determined to save a young girl from their style of life.

Thanks! I can watch LOCI on instant watch on Netflix, so I’ll check out that episode today. Now I want to learn more about the gypsies, so interesting.

another terrible effort by tv to shun all people who still have a ounce of culture that has not been bleached away by are narrow minded holyer-then-thou all American media.how much research was done before words like thieving were used?I HOPE WITH ALL MY HEART THAT SOME VERY SMART “GYPSIE” OUT THERE SUES THE NETWORK FOR ALL THERE WORTH!
