Memoriam
“Memoriam” helped CBS in the ratings yet again. The big winner of the night was the CMA Awards on ABC, but Criminal Minds did even better than last week, pulling in 14.80 million viewers to land in the #2 spot. Great job, and great episode.
Reid continued to pursue the truth behind his dream, with the help of Rossi and Morgan. Under hypnosis, he remembered that he saw his father in the backyard, burning a pile of bloody clothes. Meanwhile, another suspect comes to light - one that more closely fits the profile. Reid refuses to stop focusing on his father, especially when he remembers that his dad coached the Little League team that both he and Riley were on. Anyway, in the course of the show, Reid sees his dad for the first time in about twenty years. His father has been keeping up with his accomplishments all this time.
Diana Reid can’t remember the events surrounding the murder of Riley, and when Spenser pushes her, she has a little breakdown. She does, however, decide to stop taking her medication so she can remember, even though she knows the consequences (including hearing voices). She remembers that Spenser played chess with the suspect -Gary Michaels- and she believed that the man would harm Spenser. Diana shared this information with his father. Two months later (after Riley’s murder), both Lou and Diana rode around and Diana pointed out Gary Michaels’s house. Lou then went in the house and murdered him. Diana was in the car and came in to find him dead. She slipped on the blood - it was her clothes Spenser’s dad was burning. William Reid left because he couldn’t handle knowing what had happened.
So the suspicion that Reid’s father had done something to either Riley or Spenser was false. It turns out he just helped his wife by destroying her blood soaked clothes.
On a happier note, JJ had her baby, Henry. She asked Garcia and Reid to be the godparents. That was a touching scene.

This was a lovely episode, which didn’t take the low road and make Spencer’s dad a bad guy, like it so easily could have done. Even though mama Reid’s role in the murder was covered up and although it was still a crime, no one could think of accusing her now. Reid was very angry and that was good! Someday we will have an angry Reid vs Gideon episode if they show lasts long enough.
I absolutely loved the HOTCH “I’ll get the car” as soon as hearing JJ might be in labor. That was precious and right and a great sort of inside pleasure for Hotch fans.
Morgan really defends and protects Reid as much as possible. He is a good guy and I think after this ep, will get it that Reid’s mind does go into many aspects that he, Morgan, would never consider going.
I liked this episode very much! Now time for some Hotch.

I agree - we need some more Hotch time. And I liked it, too, how he seemed sort of brotherly and protective of JJ when she went into labor. A lot of people were saying that they hoped Reid’s father wasn’t a “bad” guy - I’m glad it turned out that his role was actually to help Spenser’s mother and that Spenser was not a victim of his father or anyone else.
I liked this episode too, espeically as it showed how the team worked together, both when Morgan and Rossi helped Reid, and when the ladies and Hotch were there to support JJ.
