Season 2 Finale Re-airs
“The Evilution of Frank” is an example of Criminal Minds at its best. It was dramatic and intense. Also, Mandy Patinkin was definately the highlight. In this episode, probably more than any other, Gideon exudes emotion. You can see that he feels intense pain when Frank calls him from Gideon’s own apartment, and again when he talks to Tracy (Elle Fanning) on the phone. I’ve always been a fan of Mandy Patinkin -not obsessed by any means - but this made me more aware of what an incredible actor he is.
The only thing that I found to be a little odd was the dialogue in some places. I noticed it when Hotch was talking to Section Chief Erin Strauss. He seems overly formal in his speech. I noticed it with some of the other main characters later in the show. It seemed like this episode told you a lot about Gideon but made the other major characters seem kind of flat. (Except of Garcia - who is never flat.) What do you think?
This was a good way to end the season, and it does lend itself to explaining why Gideon leaves. He just looked pained. It has been reported that Patinkin identifies very closely with the character of Gideon and might feel too much emotion. That was evident last night in “No Way Out; The Evilution of Frank.”
