Wednesday Competition
ABC, NBC, and Fox are all premiering new shows during the Wednesday nine o’clock hour for this fall. CBS will air its third season of popular Criminal Minds. Let’s check out the competition.
NBC -”Bionic Woman”
Michelle Ryan plays Jaime Sommers, who is involved in a devestating “accident.” The only way to save her life is to turn her into the Bionic Woman. She is airlifted to a top-secret government facility where her limbs are replaced with bionic ones. From there, all hell breaks loose with conspiracies and mysteries. Check out a review at TV Blend.
I had no interest in watching this show at all because I don’t like sci-fi stuff. It sounds all right though from the reviews that I’ve read. If Criminal Minds isn’t on one week, I might check it out.
ABC - “Private Practice”

“Private Practice” is a spin-off of ABC’s popular “Grey’s Anatomy.” It features Kate Walsh (”Greg’s Anatomy”) as Dr. Addison Montgomery, who leaves Seatlle Grace Hospital for LA to join a private practice with her med school friends. She is suprised that the doctors with successful careers are not at all sucessful in their personal lives. Together, though, the staff of Oceanside Wellness does cutting-edge work and redeem themselves through medicine. “Private Practice” also stars:
Tim Daly (”Wings,” “The Nine”), Amy Brenneman (”Judging Amy”), Chris Lowell (”Veronica Mars”), Merrin Dungey (”Alias”), Paul Adelstein (”Prison Break”), and Taye Diggs (”Day Break,” “Kevin Hill”).
No urge to watch this at all - not a fan of “Grey’s Anatomy.” Besides, why watch this when you could watch cranky Dr. House on Fox?
Fox - “Kitchen Nightmares”
Gordon Ramsay gets out of Hell’s Kitchen for a while and goes on the road. He travels around to struggling restuarants to whip them into shape. Fox’s webiste writes:
For restaurant owners in crisis with lazy chefs in the kitchen, temperamental wait staffs and few and unhappy diners, it’s time to call in the restaurant industry’s equivalent of 911.
Chef Ramsey frightens me a little. I’m sure he frightens the restaurant owners, who are treated to a week of his services as he tries to change their deserted dining rooms into the place to go in their area. I have my own kitchen nightmares…I think I can skip Fox’s.
CBS brings Criminal Minds back for its third season. With the very public departure of Mandy Patinkin and the arrival of Joe Mantegna, I’m sure interest in CM will be high. CBS has sandwiched the show in between two other popular ones. At eight, Jericho is on. The network was going to cancel the post-apocolyptic drama but kept it because the tremendous support loyal viewers showed. Blogs played a huge role in this, as that is the forum people chose to voice their opinion. And they must have voiced it loudly enough. At ten is CSI: NY, which has done very well in the ratings this summer.

So there are your options. Criminal Minds is definately my pick for the night. It’ll be interesting to see how Mandy Patinkin leaves and how Joe Mantegna makes his debut. I’m curious how he’ll fit in with the team. And I like creepy unsubs.
