Who has the weirder lab girl?
Kirsten Vangsness plays Penelope Garcia, the keeper of all knowledge for the BAU. Her character is the antithesis of a typical FBI agent. She has an eclectic sense of style - everything from her clothes to her hair to her pens shows her personality. She’s a little sunshine for the BAU team.
In an interview with Matt Romanada from Inside Pulse, Romanado asks Kirsten if she had ever met an FBI agent through her work on the show.
Kirsten, having met two, replied:
Yeah the other guy is awesome. But yeah people would always say that my character wasn’t realistic. Then one day I get this note on my desk saying “We appreciate you.” And then one of the profilers came up to me and said, “I want you to know there is a whole basement of people like you at the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) and they worship you.”
It’s interesting out of all the characters on Criminal Minds, there is a basement full of Garcias.
Here’s a little Youtube of Garcia working her magic on the computers and phones, as well as her teammates. All the while with a smile.
I watched NCIS for the first time in a long time recently and noticed a character - also quirky and weird. Abby Sciuto, played by Pauley Perrette, is a forensics specialist. Like Garcia, her character is a direct contrast to the investigators around her. And like Kirsten Vangsness, Pauley Perrette writes a blog on CBS.com.

Even though NCIS has been on longer than Criminal Minds, I feel like Garcia is the more original character. She seems more natural in her quirkiness. You know how some people are just weird? That’s just who they are and who they act. Then there are other people who like to think they’re original and eccentric and have to really try. It does not come naturally. Abby seems to be one of those people that have to try - who knows…she could be a whacko in real life, but she just comes off as trying to hard to be different.
Criminal Minds was definately lucky to find Kirsten Vangsness. She’s definately the queen of all knowledge and of all weirdness. For some spoilers regarding Garcia, click here.

ABBY DID IT FIRST AND SHE DOES IT BETTER!!!
It’s obvious that the idea for this Criminal Minds chick was stolen from NCIS- because before Abby there were no alternative crime show characters. NCIS are just doing what they’ve been doing for the last four or five years- the ones who are trying to hard are every other show wanting to do the same.

I like both ladies. It’s good to see women characters who aren’t cookie cutters and who are smart and strong. I gotta go with my girl, Penelope Garcia, but I definately think Abby is a great character.

Abby is much better than the criminal Minds girl. I don’t see wthe whole- “Abby’s character is trying too hard” because to me, it seemed the other way around.
And yeah, I also feel that Criminal minds ripped-off Abby.

I’ve never watched Criminal Minds so I don’t know anything about the girl on that show. I do know that Pauley Perrette used to, and maybe still does, front an all girl punk band. I think some of her character on NCIS comes from that.

They are both positive role models as women who are vehemently themselves. They don’t have cookie cutter looks or behaviour, and they both show strong independent personalities. It doesn’t matter who came first. We need as many of these fantastic women as we can get!

Hey both are great shows, but when talking quirky lab girl, well then Pauley Perrette AKA Abby is bar non the best so far. The one who did it first, is still the best. You go girl. Thanks for the laughs, and weirdness.
The show and Abby are GOLD

Abby is much like herself in real life.
I’m too lazy to write all of it so I just went to wiki.
She got her break on NCIS while bartending in a New York City bar.
“In addition to acting, Perrette is also a published poet, writer, photographer, and spoken-word artist, a lover of music of all kinds, and a passionate advocate for civil rights. She was the lead singer in the Los Angeles based all female band Lo-Ball; a song by Lo-Ball can be heard during the movie Legally Blonde. Perrette appeared in the “The Unnamed Feeling” video for heavy metal band Metallica off of their album St. Anger. In 2007 she produced a documentary about U.S. civil rights attorney and author Mark Lane.[2][1]
In an interview with Craig Ferguson, who is the host of The Late, Late Show, she said she has a lifelong crime obsession. She was an undergrad student in Sociology, Psychology, and Criminal Science. She started her masters in Criminal Science before ending up in the entertainment industry. She has ended up playing a forensic scientist, which is what she was training to be in the first place.”
Sure sounds like Abby to me.
As for Criminal Minds… I havent really seen it so I have no opinion.
